Turkey Drive Results
Many families will have a nice dinner next week because of the generosity of the Northwest High community.  We donated 477 turkeys, 1608 side items, and $600 to the United Methodist Open Door Turkey Drive!  As an added bonus - the highly-coveted “large high school” turkey trophy will remain at Northwest for the 4th straight year!  Thank you to everyone for your help.

Turkey Drive
The 24th Annual Turkey Drive will be this Friday, November 21, 2014, from 7-9:30 a.m. at the AMAC parking lot. Starting this month, we will once again compete in the District Turkey Drive Competition. This includes collecting turkeys and/or money and competing against other high schools. Let’s bring in the turkeys!! This is the 24th year for the turkey drive and the 7th year that students have been involved and totally revolutionized the drive! NW won last year in the big school category so we want to win again!! Of course the real winners are those families in our community that benefited from all the money raised and turkeys donated. Here is a list of activities for the week:

Turkeys for Extra Credit. Some teachers have agreed to give extra credit to students who donate a turkey. Teachers need to request that students show them the turkey on Friday, November 21 before 8am. We will begin accepting turkeys on Friday, November 21 at 7am at the trucks in the parking lot. We will track turkey donations for COTY points, but not for individual teachers.

Canned food collection boxes will be in front of pupil services Monday-Thursday next week.

Turkeys for Tardies – 2 Tardy passes for each turkey or 15 canned food items donated on Nov. 21.
4th hour competition – Dimes and Dollars for Doughnuts. Begins Monday Nov. 17 and ends on Wednesday Nov. 19. (Fourth Hour that donates the most $ gets a doughnut party). Grizzlies for Change students will come to your 4th period on Monday and Wednesday to pick up your class donations.

Future Educators Visit Dodge Elementary
Northwest’s “Teaching as a Career” class visited Dodge Literacy Elementary Magnet on October 21.  The students read “Bunny Cakes” by Rosemary Wells to groups of students in Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classes as part of Jumpstart’s “Read for the Record” campaign.  “Teaching as a Career” is a Career and Technology Education elective credit course for students who are curious about a career in education.  Students also have the option of enrolling with Friends University for reduced tuition college credit.
